As part of the ongoing efforts by the Committee for the Reconstruction of Bridges in Gedo Region, a comprehensive survey was recently conducted in Baardheere and Buurdhuubo districts , where several critical bridges have collapsed over time due to natural disasters and lack of maintenance. These damaged structures have severely impacted transportation, trade, and access to essential services for local communities.
The committee’s team of qualified engineers , led by the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Waadi , visited multiple bridge sites across both districts. During these field assessments, surveyors meticulously examined the structural conditions of the bridges, documented findings through detailed reports, photographs, and technical evaluations, and identified priority locations for reconstruction.
In addition to the on-site inspections, the team held community meetings and consultations with local authorities in Baardheere and Buurdhuubo. These engagements were crucial in gathering firsthand information about the socio-economic impact of the destroyed bridges and in understanding the specific needs of each locality.
This activity marks a significant step forward in the committee’s mission to restore safe and modern infrastructure throughout the Gedo region. The data collected will serve as a foundation for planning future reconstruction projects, mobilizing resources, and partnering with regional and federal institutions, humanitarian organizations, and members of the Somali diaspora.
